My condolences to Link's sister Joan and her family. I've known Link since 1977. The stories he told of his days in Morgantown helped influence my decision to leave Vienna and enter engineering school at WVU. Link also loved to talk about military aircraft and would always run upstairs and bring down some newly acquired book to share with me when visiting him.
Rebuilding carburetors was Link's specialty and he did so for numerous engine builders throughout the Mid Ohio Valley. He taught me how to rebuild a carburetor the right way. "Always buy a factory rebuild kit. None of that aftermarket junk", he would say.
He also loved '32 Fords and '32 Lincoln roadsters. He knew I did as well and purchased me a photo of Edsel Ford sitting in the 1932 Lincoln KB Roadster at Indy when it was the pace car that year. I still have that photo in my office today.
Link, or "Bud" as his mom used to call him, you will be greatly missed my friend.... |

Link was a special part of our lives. He brought levity, friendship and humor to us. His love for all the things, in life,which he enjoyed was passionate. I am so sorry to hear of Harry's passing. It is a road all of us must travel, but hopefully our road will lead forever to the Lord.
To the children. In 1982 I bought what was once the back half of your mom and dad's property on the Heights, although the entrance to my part was from Hill Ave. I had many nice visits in the kitchen talking with your mom and dad as I passed through their yard on one of my many walks, or when I just dropped by to visit. Harry was always interested in what I was doing with the place, and would occasionally walk up and take a look at it and have a chat with me. I still maintain some of the apple trees that he planted on it. My wife and I built there in 1987. I will forever cherish the memories I have of those visits.
And "Aggie," I bet I heard Harry call you that a thousand times, my condolences are with you. I still remember you asking if you could dig up some butterfly weed from to plant in your garden. I still have some, and you are still welcome to it. I have done well with a garden and raspberries and blueberries, and hope to farm blueberries there when I retire in about three years.
We are taking good care of our part, and the Dyes are taking good care of their part. It looks the same as always and it is in good hands.

Dr. howes and I go way back he was not only a wonderful doctor but also a wonderful friend. Dr. Howes saved my second sons life, he came to our home every evening after working all day and gave me shots and checked me to see if everything was alright. Our thoughts are with the family at this very sad time. Dr. Howes was our family physician from the time I was around 12 til we moved to Ca.some 32 years ago. He delivered all 3 of our children. He was a very compassionate and caring person. We speak of him quite often still. Remember the numerous times my mother never paid for an office visit except garden veggies. Sure will be sadly missed but always loved. |

We only met Victor once, but he left a lasting impression on us. He was bowling in the lane next to ours, and when he finished with his game he asked if he could come sit and watch us bowl. Aunt Margaret, a matriarch of our family, who cared for our grandmother, and gave our dad, her baby brother, so many opportunities she was denied, will be missed. Â She tolerated much teasing from our dad who could make her giggle at her own serious and shy nature. Â But, he was profoundly aware that his sisters worked so that he could go to college and that Margaret and Ruth were both more deserving of the opportunity to attend college than he. Â Our lives cannot be understood without first a nod to Aunt Margaret.
She never, ever forgot our birthdays, graduations or a holiday and when we were kids always had potato chips in a big can, ice cream, and coke in a bottle for our visits. Â We will remember her style and grace, her quiet generosity and steadfast presence in our lives. To Teresa's family: I am so sorry to hear about Teresa.What a shock.She and a friend that I lived with along with six other girls when we attended Mountain State College are responsible for introducing me to their couisin Michael Hickman.Everyone always thought it was a fun story to tell as we only went out on two dates and got married eight weeks later. He was in the Air Force in Nevada and sent me the money for plane trip to Reno.We were married in June of 1973 and he passed away in October of 2006 with heart failure at the age of 56. We were married 33 years and we were surprised as much as other people that we were together that long! What is meant to be is meant to be.Mike was the first couisin to pass away and Teresa is the second one.Odd that they were both 56.You guys are in my thoughts and prayers.I am really sorry for your loss. |

I have such fond memories of childhood times with Jack. There was the tree behind the house on Madison Ave. We climbed and became all sorts of heroes
in our imagination. At the King house in Spring Valley we delighted in placing firecrackers on rocks in the creek and setting them off there. We also used them as dynamite in the "bluff" behind the house to build roads and coal mines.
My condolences to all those who knew and loved Jack. I know the last few years have been tough on the family, especially Janet. It's always tough to lose a loved one, but we can take comfort in the fact that Jack is at peace now.

I worked with Ethelene at Exel Logistics and I enjoyed working with her and teasing her. Whenever a new hire would come in I would introduce her as Ethel. You know how she hated that!!!! She would always say "Oh, Debby!!!!"

I was so sorry when I read on the internet about Herb. I worked with Herb. I worked with Herb at Vienna TV from late 1968 till March 1970. We had a great time together. We was always teasing each other about something. Herb was always in a good mood. On hot afternoons we always stopped at Broughtens for ice cream and on weekends we liked to play golf togather. I never seen him mad at anyone and he always had time to to talk to anyone he would meet. I went to work in a plant in 1970 and never got to see Herb much after that. Once in a while we would run into each other at Vienna foodland and we would talk about the old days but that was about all. I'm living in the Philippines now so I can't be at the funeral but I will be thinking about him. I wish I would have took the time to come see him before I moved over here. I shared a room with Mrs. Paulus in May 2008 at St. Joseph Hospital. She was a joy. We discovered that I had worked for Mr. Paulus at the former Viscose Plant in the 1960's. I described him as a tall, distinguished gentleman, and she smiled and said "that was my husband". She seemed pleased that I remembered him. The most fascinating thing I found in her was her ability to connect with each visitor; always inquiring about their life, calling each by name (including a young girl and asking about her horse, again by name). It seemed that the secret of her longivity was putting others ahead of herself. She never complained and later I enjoyed the article about her in the local Senior News publication. She was a joy to meet and I hope I can remember the trait in her life that made such an impression on me. |

This town was fortunate to have a city councilman like Hampden Fitcher. When you talked to Hampden, you could tell that he had a love and loyalty to this town. I personally would stop by his house on Swann Street sometimes and talk politics with him. I can't count the times when I would visit Hampden, I would find him talking to one of the nearby neighbor's. He genuinely cared about Parkersburg and I will really miss him. I was fortunate to see Hampden in the hospital before his passing. I feel very lucky to have met Hampden and to have got to know him some. I wish my sincere and deepest sympathy to the entire Fitcher family. May God bless you all! |

To the Fitcher family, my thoughts and prayers go out to you! As a young boy growing up (and through my early 20's?), I was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church. I cannot express enough how Mr. Fitcher always treated me well and how he had a genuine interest in my well-being! I was also a Boy Scout (troop #4)and with his involvement and his son Hampden III's involvement in scouts through the years, I would see him at summer camp and other places. Even later on in my life, when I would see him (the last time being about a year ago at Trinity), he always went out of his way to say hello and ask how I was doing. He also knew my Dad quite well from Trinity and expressed to me several times how much he was missed. (My dad passed away over five years ago). Anyway, Mr. Fitcher was a wonderful man and will be deeply missed. My condolences go out to you. |

I was so shocked to hear of Amy's passing. I got the call Friday morning while I was in Florida for the holidays. She was a great friend and we were helping each other get over the passing ao another friend of ours (Steve Sellers)that had just died. I had the pleasure of running into Amy twice in the last couple weeks....once at the bowling alley and then again at the funeral home for a service of a mutual friend of ours. We laughed because we hadn't seen each other in years and then bumped into each other twice in less than a week. We played basketball together in High School and 'against' each other in Jr. High. Yeah, Washington smeared us that year!:)Amy always made things fun....and funny too. We knew Amy through our daughter Jane E.....they played basketball together in high school at P.H.S. Just recently (about two weeks ago) I saw and spoke with Amy at the bowling alley...she was assisting the Wood County Society for Disabled Children and Adults with the bowling party we have every year. She made the best pizza for this event....and was always smiling and trying to help. She will be missed tremendously and I am grateful to God for having known such a sweet and beautifully spirited young lady...that smile will be melting hearts in heaven. I met Amy when my son Dustin began working at the bowling alley with her she took him under her wing and showed him the ropes as well as my daughter Heather when she began working with her too. Becky B........My oh my friend, I never thought I would be telling you goodbye in this way, I know you have had it terribly rough but you was a "Mom" and we have to make so many sacrifices for those we love, but if i could have taken you away from any of the pain and worry and torment i would have. To Clyde's Family: I grew up in the neighborhood where Clyde and Mr. Gault (his father) lived. Clyde was always a kind a gentle spirit. I remember him most with his bicycle. He had an unforgettable look of glee when he was riding his bike. I also remember that for a number of years, a parade wasn't officially over in downtown Parkerbsurg until Clyde brought up the rear. I think of him often and while I was happy to learn more about him through his obituary, I was saddened by his death. I hope to make it to the funeral today, but if not, please know that he is remembered. - Roger Sheppard |

I am so sorry for the loss of Ruby Jewel. Her smile and chuckle is what the world will miss the most. Along with the warmth that her house gave any one that walked through the front door. Summers in Parkersburg will live long in my memory of Ruby and family. God has been blessed with an angel for she earned her wings letting all of us pile in her house. Jim and I no longer live in Parkersburg, but our sons still do. What a blessing Ruby was to the working mother. We are so thankful we had her to care for our sons while we both worked. At the time she started babysitting our sons, Matt was only 2 years old and Mark was 6. They are now 27 and 31, respectively. Our hearts are sadder today to learn of your loss.
