A super mom that is what we lost--an educator, entrepreneur, inventor, manager, mom, grandmother, friend and a very strong independent woman. She taught us that you could do anything, be anything and make a difference.
She would ask, "What is the difference between hot water and steam?" The answer--one degree. If you make life one degree better for the next person, you will make a difference. She approached her teaching, her business and her life in that way.
She was a woman of determination, believed in a diverse environment, and loved to cook ethnic foods to find out what made the stomachs of the world happy. She took classes in history, language, bread baking and knitting. Estelle was fluent in French, studied art and loved textiles.
Born in New York City to the late Dorothy Friedman Stack and J.B. Stack, 94 years ago, she enjoyed the community of many cousins, aunts and uncles. She married Jerry Kreinik and loved him for 65 years. They had three sons, Ted, married to Arlene (Connecticut), Douglas, married to Myla (Parkersburg) and Andrew married to Jacqueline (Baltimore).
She, along with Jerry, was proud and often amazed of the effect of their business ideas. Kreinik Mfg., the business created out of desperation, because of lack of work, became the industry leader espousing the use of silks and metallics in embroidery and stitchery. She was always willing to help friends and associates to make their businesses and the industry better.
They won many awards including the much coveted TEN (The Excellence in Needlework) from industry members. Estelle created the first needlework organizer on the market as a solution for the problem of her threads being all over the car when traveling. She used all of her learnings in clothing, language, accounting, customer service and leadership to make a difference.
In her move after Jerry's death, people were amazed that a woman 93 years old would just up and leave to live in an independent senior village in Baltimore. But, Mom thrived there. She met men and woman whose lives had made a difference and who were diverse. The residents, as well as the staff, loved her.
She told me in her last days that there were a few things in life that she regretted; 1. That of not convincing Jerry to move to Broadmead in Baltimore five years ago where she had spent a wonderful year; 2. Having missed the big "barn sale" at the senior village were she was looking forward to getting some good deals; and 3. Not being able to vote for Obama on election day with her lady friends. She felt very strongly about the right to vote.
She loved life and loved her grandchildren, Julie, Danielle and husband, Jon, Charles and Zach.
Services will be 1 p.m., Friday, November 2, 2012 at the Vaughan Funeral Home, 1010 Murdoch Avenue, Parkersburg, W.Va. with student Rabbi Marc Ekstrand officiating. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Thursday and one hour before services Friday at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
If you would like to make a donation in her honor, please send to Temple B’nai Israel, P.O. Box 1894, Parkersburg, WV 26102 or to the Kreinik Fund at the Parkersburg Foundation.

Parkersburg businessman, Donald M. Busch, 74, died Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at Camden Clark Medical Center, Memorial Campus, Parkersburg, W.Va. following an extended illness.
Mr. Busch was born Wednesday, June 2, 1937 at Big Bend, Calhoun County, West Virginia, the youngest son of the late Ray Maxwell (Max) and Theresa Lynch Busch. He was a 1956 graduate of Calhoun County High School and, in recent years, enjoyed hosting high school class gatherings at his home. At a young age, he developed a fondness and respect for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. For many years, was a competitive coon hunter, having won numerous awards, and enjoyed buying and trading firearms. While still in high school, he began working with the family excavating business, R.M. Busch Excavating, and, before long, became known for his skill in operating excavating equipment. After receiving an honorable discharge from the US Army, he returned to West Virginia to join his father and brother as a heavy equipment operator with Max Busch, Inc. In conjunction with the US Army Corps of Engineers, he created many of West Virginia’s beautiful lakes, ponds, and recreational resorts and personally constructed more than 400 farm ponds across West Virginia. In the early 1970’s, his career focus shifted from excavation to crane operation and upon retirement of his father in 1978, he and his brother formed Busch Crane Rental, Inc. and operated Grove hydraulic cranes throughout West Virginia and Ohio until his retirement in 1988. He was a long time member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 132 AFL-CIO and was very proud of his work of erecting many structures throughout the region along with his excavation work. He never forgot any of the projects and had a story about each.
He was a 50 year member of the Mt. Olivet Lodge #3, AF & AM, a 32nd degree member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, and the Nemesis Temple of the Shrine where he had been a member of the Director’s Staff. He enjoyed traveling, visiting flea markets and auctions, and, in recent years, was never happier than when he was hosting cook outs and karaoke for friends and family at his home. He loved chasing a good deal and enjoyed trading and collecting Coca Cola memorabilia. Many people turned to him as the ‘go to’ man for advice on construction and home improvement projects and he was always thinking about the next project on his ‘to do’ list. He was a licensed private pilot and enjoyed flying his Cessna. He was never without a canine companion by his side and, currently in a line of purebred miniature schnauzers, Sniffer was his devoted sidekick.
He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Martha (Mace) Busch; two sons and their wives, Gregory T. and Mary Beth (Stanley) Busch of Elizabeth, W.Va. and Mansfield, Ohio and Michael Shawn and Tara (Mace) Busch of Parkersburg, W.Va.; a step son, Tony L. Lopez of Parkersburg, W.Va.; a brother and his wife, Glenn K. and Barbara (Reed) Busch of Lubeck, W.Va.; a sister and her husband, L. Kathryn (Katie) and Carroll Slider of Parkersburg, W.Va.; four grandchildren, Nicholas A. and his wife, Mary K. (Lott) Busch of Parkersburg, W.Va., Emily Grace Busch of Cross Lanes, W.Va., Michaelyn S. Busch of Parkersburg, W.Va. and Mace M. Busch of Parkersburg, W.Va.; a great-grandson, Gregory Maxwell (Max) Busch of Parkersburg, W.Va.; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, James, Charlie, and Tom Bennett, Bill, Mary Bell, and Elisa Kale.
Funeral services will be 12:00 Noon Saturday, January 7, 2012 at the Vaughan Funeral Home, 1010 Murdoch Avenue, Parkersburg, W.Va. with Pastors Loyd Winans and Dave Cumpston officiating. Jerry M Kreinik passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Wednesday March 23rd at the age of 96 years.
Jerry was born in 1915 in New York City to the late Isadore and Sarah Kreinik. He graduated from NYU and was a WWII veteran. Jerry studied textiles, chemistry, law, engineering, loved reading, classical music, being informed, and arguing points of interest.
Jerry was a blue sky thinker, an inventor, entrepreneur, lecturer, futurist, loving husband, father, and grandfather, living a full and eventful life. Jerry’s influence was felt by those he met.
Using his imagination and creative juices and helped along by Estelle, his wife of 66 years, Jerry developed industrial standards of excellence within the needlepoint and cross stitch industry throughout the world. His moniker became a synonym for excellence.
During his unique life, he worked at the Brooklyn Navy Yards developing textiles used for submariners and polar explorers, advanced the science of zippers, fasteners and buttons working on the creative team developing the “D” ring used by millions today, and established sizing for woman’s clothing. He taught the first class in plastics in the 1950’s at Brooklyn College in NY, designed dustless charcoal used by millions today. Along with this, he advanced the innovation of foam plastics, structural plastics and laminates.
In 1971, after being released by Borg Warner, during the great firing, he and his wife Estelle began their trek into the hand-needlecraft industry during its infancy. Working with nothing but their knowledge of textiles, plastics, art, furniture, and materials, they developed a reputation for originality and superb products. Using materials that had never been contemplated, they developed lines of soft, usable craft yarn products in silks and metallics that felt good to the touch. With their little business, they were able to travel the world, see the beauty of this small planet, and influence the industry. Their business grew. They were recognized by The National Needlework Association for Excellence in the Industry in 1994. In 2012, Kreinik Mfg. Co, Inc., a Parkersburg business, will celebrate its 40th anniversary.
Literally millions of people around the globe have and continue to enjoy the results of Jerry’s efforts in creating the materials used in needlecrafts and other textile arts and fashion.
His family enjoyed his love of nature and learned how to recognize birds and trees, stars and cars; learned how to patiently use a variety of hand tools to create beautiful objects in wood, metal, and clay. He contributed his time and funds to a number of community groups including Temple B’nai Israel, the Friends of the Parkersburg Public Library, and Parkersburg Art Center.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Estelle; three sons and daughters-in-law, Ted and Arlene Kreinik (Newtown, CT), Doug and Myla Kreinik (Parkersburg), Andrew and Jacqueline Kreinik (Baltimore, MD); his sister Audrey and brother-in-law Toby Yospin (Boston), along with four grandchildren Juliana (Brooklyn, NY), Danielle (Los Angeles, CA), Charles (Baltimore, MD) and Zachary (Washington, D.C.)
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Shirley and brother in law Ted Gaynor.
Services will be conducted Sunday, March 27, at 2:00 P.M. at the Vaughan Funeral Home, Parkersburg with student Rabbi Rachel Kaplan officiating. There will be visitation one hour before the service. Internment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
